ask a simple question get wierd replies
THanks to all those that answered me decently, and thanks to those
that stood by me coz i asked a simple technical question
about the fermenter,
And i'm sure those that were laughing at my initial question
have indeed taken a few full glass of brew from their fermenter to taste test.
oh yes i'm still on my 6th only brew, and i'm learning from each new brew
that i do, as i just used fuggles yesterday in a coopers bitter and 500gm
of dark and 500gm light malt, along with the 25fuggles at the last 10 mins
So i hope i'v done the right way of brewing for this batch, and if there
are still idiots that want to laugh at my brewing techniques pls feel free
you already have done so,

i filled it a few times while capping, who needs carbonation at a time like that, pure as it comes...

maybe you live next door, if so- stay away from shed, but yeah used yer name as a joke, no offense (unless yer last name really is Dover), it just made me think of my friend
MIKE HUNT!

& I struggle to see how boozing on straight from the fermentor just to get your mates pissed could be classed as "technical".
Nor have I ever heard of serving straight from the fermentor being what was done in the "olden days". Serving casks are used to help free up fermentors for the next batch to start fermenting.
There is a method very similar to what your trying to do. Its called 'kegging'. & there's a whole section on this forum devoted to it if you care to look for it.
Plain & simply you have asked what some people have found a silly & ill researched question. If people laugh who's fault is that? Put a bit of time into researching your questions before asking if you don't want to look like a twit.

In theory, well mine anyway, if the fermenter was chock full of beer with little headspace and you added 180-200g of sugar, had it well sealed (sealed airlock), left it for 2-3 weeks the threw in the fridge......it may work
in Boonies head anyway
.
Here's an idea.....Go buy a vessel from Bunnings. At my local there is a "Gasoline style" (Cant remember the exact word) vessel with a tap and the tops are rubber sealed. Will fit in a fridge and take 20 Litres. Don't drink it warm.
Rack the beer into there with dex, leave 3 weeks, then throw in fridge.......if pain persists, see your doctor.
I'd be interested to see how you go
Fellas, give the guy a go!!!! He asked a serious question, in his mind, he doesn't know that there is a contest on here to see who can be crowned the "Oliver and Geoff's Sarcastic Bastard Of The Year King"
PS....Mine came up with the cat too "Rise of the fleas".......what's that about chris.
Cheers
Boonie

A homebrew is like a fart, only the brewer thinks it's great.
Give me a flying headbutt.......

Re: drinking out of seconardy fermenter or 1st
Ok Boonie. Point taken. But you really think this is a serious question?
"still ok"? was it ok last time?...
If it works for you then knock your socks off. Why ask the question?
If your happy drinking flat, warm, green beer then go for it. I can't imagine that it's going to be terribly thirst quenching on a hot day.
Here's a tip: try bottling a batch, leave it to carbonate & mature a bit, Do a taste test between the 2, & then come back here & tell us before calling anyone an idiot.
rant over
I cant even figure out what he's trying to ask? - On one hand he's stating something something that he's done. Then he's asking if it's ok to do it?ben.d wrote:As sometimes me and mates, just drink out of primary ferminator
after a couple weeks, (they go home drunk to their wives), so
i'm wondering whether its still ok to drink straight out of the
primary and secondary fermenter as well.

Boonie, what about the displacement in the cube/jerry? When you pull of a glass you'll be drawing oxygen into the cube. I cant imagine the beer staying fresh any longer than a day, maybe a few days at most.Boonie wrote: Here's an idea.....Go buy a vessel from Bunnings. Can I have a go?
Some of the contestants efforts are a bit......well...... ordinary.

bit more of an interesting thread than some would think - not so different to how ale was drunk before refrigeration - from fermenter to secondary , and served out of the barrel by gravity - carbonation was for the gentry, ale from the barrel for the people.
FWIW, I remember tasting a belgian ale I had in secondary in a plastic jerry can without an air lock (twas a little swollen), and it was more than drinkable at the 12 or 13 C it was sitting - seemed a shame to go and bottle it.

Hey, everyone!
We're famous! Look:

Gee, it makes me feel good that we have treated a newcomer so well. Sure he did something I would not do, but we are an inclusive lot and happy to offer advice, so wtf...
Fortunately, I've never posted *anything* that I've looked back on and thought better of afterwards.
Let's not become one of those forums that is an example of what not to be.
Please.
