Brewer's Selection Wort Kits
Brewer's Selection Wort Kits
Brewer's Selection Wort Kits
Hi Has anyone tried one of these.
Is there any thing else you would add.
The brurb says
"The best and easiest beer you'll get. These kits are not malt extract, but an all grain wort made by Matt Donellan at the St Peters Brewery in Sydney. All you do is add the Fresh Wort to your fermenter with 5 litres of water and pitch the yeast. They come with your choice of Safale S-04, Safale US-56, Saflager S-23, Saflager W-34/70 or Safwheat K-97 yeast."
Sound easy
Thanks Yamaroo

Yamaroo,
I have tried all that I have found except the pilsner.
A quick speil on each:
Amarillo ale - lovely - JSGA. Could do with a few grams of Amarillo dry hopped, but still excellent as is.
Norwest - American Pale ale - a bit understated but still very nice. In this style I like em in your face - this is mild by my standards - in fact that may be an overall comment for the whole range - a tad mild.
Aussie Pale /Lager - same wort I reckon just different yeasts. Good quaffer. A bit bland hopwise but a nice underlying maltiness.
Original Porter - magnificent - I loved this beer. The keg went very quickly.
Double Choc stout - not my fav - as yet - Has only been in keg a few days. Is rich and choc with nice bitter finish and will probably mature into a great beer.
Celtic Red - Very very nice - drink this before a kilkenny any day.
IPA - Too malty for me - nice beer but not the strength and bitterness I like in IPA.
There was another one - cant recall its labelling - supposed to be like a CSA. Was pretty good.
I have one or two kegs full of fresh wort at all times and keep one or two for my brews. For those of us 'time inhibited' and or lazy buggers - these are the ducks guts. Not hard to add some extras which I shall be doing next time around.

I have tried a couple. The Amarillo is good but i agree that a bit more Amarillo hops would be worth trying.
I done the Porter about six weeks ago and love it. I think its close to the Squires Porter and will definately have a keg of this year round.
Another E.S.B brew i tried was the 3 kilo tin of the American Pale Ale and was pretty damn good if you give it enough time, my keg ran out too early!

I'd be surprised if anyone's APA improved with 2 months age. APA's are about fresh hop flavours.

Agree that the Amarillo needs more hops.
Cant say what storage for any length of time would do to this beer as I keg and the keg doesnt last more than a fortnight . The last one I dry hopped 14gram amarillo and it was a ripper.
But I think that this bloke purposely makes them a bit on the bland side so most punters can drink and enjoy.
A bit like Maccas really - quick service and always the same product.
