Yeah i was five years old and they were cool ok!!

Yeah well maybe if you were 5. When I was 5, Adidas 3 stripe was cool, and you could have them in either blue or black. Amco were the ducks guts in denim, and riding a Malvern Star Dragster was cool, or a Chopper if you were really flash, cause they had a three speed shifter !

Sorry don't mean to put sh** on your runners, after all there was a time when lumberjackets were cool, not to mention paisley print denim.

I just can't imagine that KT-26's were ever cool, even though I can accept that Dunlop Volleys were. Life is a paradox.

A bloke called Sultan Kayal who I went to Unley Primary School with from about 1978 to 1984 wore KT-26s.

I never had a pair myself but thought he was pretty cool to wear such shoes.

I owned one pair only ever in my life. Bought in 1981, but only to run in, not for casual wear. I did the 1981 City to Surf in them, but moved on to much better runners after that. I've had Puma, Mizuno, Reebok, and now my runners are always ASICS.

I had a pair waaaaaay back in 5th grade (about 1979), mate i thought my shit didn't stink - finally, one of the "cool" kids i thought! wore those things on my feet day and night i reckon for about 2 months until some bastard - beleive it or not - stole them at our swimming carnival, man i was gutted

I used to have a Ken Maynard shirt with his interpretation of Ned Kelly which has inscribed "Im a Ned Kelly Fan" Aunty Phyllis bought this me when she visited Glenrowan but I never wore it and threw it out which is unfortunate as Ken Maynard T shirts are worth a fortune on Ebay at the moment!

I had another nice shirt from the 70s entitled "old Falcons never die they just set a XAmaple"

I voted "with my flanno & trackies" tho only in reality cause I was dirt poor & they were the best shoes I got (and they were hand downs at that!)

These days I wear my New Balance shoes with my flanno, too hot up here for the trackies most of the time

I did own a pair at one point and it must be said, if you don't think they were cool you probably don't think velcro was...which is totally not true, because velcro is awesome.

Anyway, these days I have stepped up to Dunlop KT-42s. Highly sophisticated, these runners are the lace-up model with yellow decal and blue netting. Uber-cool.

I went through a couple of pairs when I was a kid. They were a good show to wear to school and save the Adidas Romes for the weekend.

Did you know that you can get them with a steel cap now? Volleys are also available with a steel toe.

oh dear, the shame of it all, who brought up this bad memory.
back in the early 80's i not only owned a pair in sneaker form i had a pair of dress KT26's.
they were a light beige, lighter than KAYAKs but that's another story, and had a mesh type insert from the toes back.
the sole was the same as the sneaker.
life was much better at school then with desert boots and Romes for the weekend.
anyone game to bring back the pastel suits,
ps i now have a pair of Brooks called THE BEAST brand name not mine so i don't know if i've really progessed or not.
i say go the Dunlop volley, i remember paying $9 a pair and wear them anywhere. who made them trendy and jacked up the price?

I wore several pair of KT-26s but before they came with Velcro. I found them to be very comfortable and sufficiently grippy for the soft bushwalking I was doing in the late 1970's and early 1980's (certainly more comfy than the Chinese walking boots I bought as a student). I tried a pair of Puma Pavement Joggers, but they didn't cut much mustard. They were all eventually replaced by some severely over-engineered Dolomite walking boots that prevail to this very day.

Nowadays, I wear RedBacks (or Blundstones) on a day-to-day basis, RM Williams if I want to dress up and Timberlands when I'm cycling or not wanting to wear the boots. As I type this, I am wearing some Goretex and Fibrepile booties from Kathmandu.
