Use gladwrap as your lid. The beer gods have sent you a message!

Tough luck with the drop though. That hurts! As for the clean up, warm soapy water is the best to get rid of the sticky.

My worst was when I had racked a Cascade Spicy Ghost into a cheapo Bunnings container. The seal wasn't brilliant so I ended up losing 15L of brew over the course of a week. Luckily we're on stumps and polished boards so it ended up just seeping into the soil under the house. Luckily it was mostly fermented so it wasn't horribly sticky.

that's making me rethink my adventures into cheapo bunnings containers... what do you guys thing about using plumbers tape on the tap threads? you can't get them remotely tight without them jumping out a notch.

KEG, are you the poor bastard who had a tap fall off, and the whole contents on the floor? I remember someone had that.

Happened 2 weeks ago, Fermenter in cupboard, pulled it forward by the tap to check gravity reading (ie sample  ) and the tap started to come out..........

Thought I had screwed back in properly, came back a day or so later and had lost 8 litres  .

Was the quickest sterilising of fermenters and racking you have ever seen  ......Ran upstairs and my neighbour was there "What's the prob" She asked......"Homebrew emergency" was the reply

Cheers

Boonie
A homebrew is like a fart, only the brewer thinks it's great.

Gladwrap's cheap - and a glass carboy is an alternative (more expensive) solution, but you only drop a full one once!!

Wasnt a happy camper last night i tell ya. Nearly cried seeing all the beer on the kitchen floor. Tell you what it wont happen again.

I think glad wrap it the go. I rung up for another lid and they want $20 for one or 30 for a whole new fermenter. So glad wrap is like 4 or 5 bux for a 100 meters hahahahaha

Take the water to the fermenter, less weight & less messy
I only drink ales cos they're quick to make.

no thankfully!

my disaster story involves yeast and wort chunks hitting the ceiling, walls, and myself after a blocked airlock.
