Hi mate, i love this hop so i may be a little biased, it gives of a mild citrus with a lot of pine woody flavours, combine this with some caramalt and or crystal, you get some pretty awesome sweetness that is very well balanced, it bitters very softly for a high AA hop i think (personal opinion) you get a nice sharpness that dissapates very quickly, try it out, i'm positive you wont be dissapointed. Bear in mind howver, i'm a certified hop head.

Definitely gonna try it, got some on order, I've got a can of Malt Shovel Pale Ale in the brew cupboard, what do you reckon for a 16L brew with the can, 500g LDME and some simcoe hops, would you use these hops to bitter and aroma? or mix it up a bit, I would like to make my first with simcoe all simcoe so i can get the flavour experience.

its a lot of hop flavour and that suits my tastes, try boiling about 10g for 30 minutes then another 10g at 1 minute with your 500g of ldme, then dry hop with another 10g at the end of fermentation, it's a very dominating hop but like i said i love it, i used of for a red ale and it has a very alpine type flavour, yum.

Well in the brew cupboard I have some carared grain and melaniodan grain, would either or both of these go with the Malt shovel can and the malt with the simcoe hops to make a bit of a red ale?

Yeah, those would both go quite well with the MSPA, it is rather thin, sweet and tasteless IMHO.

For a 16L brew with the MSPA and 500g LDME:

The carared can be steeped but I am pretty sure melanoiden must be mashed. If you don't mind doing it then I would suggest 200g of the Melanoiden and 300g of the carared in 4L water. All late additions in the boil (around 15min) of the Simcoe. You would probably want to use half as much as you normally would but because of the short boil you can use more. I would guess about 30g for 15 min would balance this brew quite nicely. Hops is all personal taste so have a guess at what you would like. Even dry hop a bit (10g maybe) in at the end for a nice smooth finish.
Prost and happy brewing!

Thin sweet and tasteless?, well i've made like 3 brews with it now and i reckon its great, although I did add a lot to them but the cans initially were only 6 bucks. But the IPA i made with one is just awesome, really close to JS IPA

Make one up as directed on the label, it will be thin, sweet and tasteless IMHO. With some addition I agree it is quite a good brew! But then, so is everything else ;)

I also paid $6 for each of my kits so I am not worried!
