I reckon they stuffed up Strongarm a few years back when they reduced its strength. It was one of the great Australian beers. Now it's not much different to all the other crap put out by most breweries.

Having said that, I'd still prefer to drink it over Boags Premium, which I think is the most overrated beer this country has ever produced.

Controversial, I know :)

Oliver,
I thought Crown Lager was the most overrated beer in Australia!

Got a feeling that Oliver's tongue may have been put in upside down.
Most of the world's award winning beer's, are on Oliver's worst list.

Probably Boags Premium and Crown are joint most-overrated beers in Oz.

Normell, what other award-winning beers are on my worst list? I just don't think that Boags Premium or Crown taste any good. In fact, I think they taste bad!

But all this putting down of good quality Australian beers, are your opinions, and your's only.
Opinions are the same as a*sehole, every bodies got one.
I know, 'cause I've got one too, and mine says that my home brew is better than any of your's. But on the International beer scene, my beer would not rate a mention against Crownies, Boags or Cascade Premium's.
I know most of us here gloat over the awards for OUR beers hanging on the wall, or is that in the mind only.
Keep on dreaming guy's, one day it just might happen.

Rant over

Nah Normell,
Not Olivers opinion alone, for what is worth I reckon Crown Lager is the most over rated beer I have had, certainly not saying that it is the worst, but certainly over rated. Remember, the reason those beers won an award is because it was someones opinion that they tasted better than something else. It all gets back to a matter of taste and I have made brews, and tasted other blokes brews that in my opinion would blow those award winning beers clean out of the water. (couldn't be sure I could ever make two the same at this stage, but still)

Don't let it get to you Bloke!

Yeah, I'm with Ross. If the best I ever got out of my brew pot was lesser or equal to Crown Lager I'd sacrificially burn my fermenter. Not saying all my beers are better, nor am I saying I wouldn't drink a Crown, but yep, I THINK it's definitely over rated.

For some reason Crown Lager is deeply ingrained into the Australian psyche as being a top shelf beer. The sooner we get rid of this phalacy the better I say.

I'd say CUB markets Crownies a lot better than we do our own brews....advertising is powerful (some say it "brainwashes!!)...makes us all believe what THEY want us too!!! (If Human Faeces were advertised as being good for you, guaranteed someone out there would rush out and buy some!!)

And back to the whole point of this thread....no I have never brewed a Strongarm Bitter!!!
Beer...beer...smurfing beer....you don't get drunk and it isn't dear!!!
