BREWFERM - TRIPLE

Post by Boonie »

G'day Boys, I have just purchased a Brewferm Triple (Belgium) beer with .5kg Sugarbeet Sugar which makes about 9 Litres of Brew @ 8%.

Have any of you guys had this one before?

I have read on previous strings that I should "Start" the yeast first as it will have a high gravity reading.

What methods are you fellas using for a starter? :?

This HB is not cheap, but compared to original, is "Very" cheap. Original from Belgium is fantastic and I do not want to stuff this up given the price.

Cheers Boys

I put one down back in March. I used the kit +250g of DME, 250g dextrose, and 10g of saaz b (steeped) using a 1.5L starter from a tube of WLP550.
I didn't think too much of it early on but after 5 months it's turned out quite drinkable.
I had a fluctuating high fermentation temeratures (upto 27deg.) but it hasn't turned out too bad. If I was to do it again I'd ferment at around 24-6deg. made upto instructions ie. 500g of candy sugar with no hop additions.
As for the yeast I personally would be reluctant to make a starter with the dried yeast. My 1st choice would be the WLP550. If you want to go for a dried yeast I'd suggest T-58.

As I understand it, for a beer of this gravity you'll need a big pitch of yeast. I was wary of pitching a packet as small as the one supplied with the kit. However the supplied yeast may be adequate if you rehydrate it properly & aerate the wort really well.

Pretty nice, but you definitely have to leave for 3 months minimum.

Drinkable after 1 month but 3 months nice 6 months very nice.

edit....my brother in laws, father loved the 2 I gave him

Cheers

i have one too....

I was going to make a starter with a 750ml bottle of tripple moine that i got rather cheap a few weeks ago... It seems the 750ml bottles have heaps of yeast sediment, whereas the 375ml have next to nothing...

I made the brewferm grand cru using 500g of candi sugar and a starter i made from a bottle of forbidden fruit.. that turned out pretty darn good, so i'm expecting this to be just as good....

As you say, the kit is a little expensive, but a hell of alot cheaper than buying the real thing....
