Octoberfest in your backyard
Octoberfest in your backyard
I'm having an Octoberfest party and wanted to see who else is doing the same.
Here's the run down.
German Beer Hall Music
3 Types of German Sausages on BBQ
Sauerkraut (sp)
Onion
Mustard
Traditional Pretzels
German Cookies
Balckforest Cake
My 1L ceramic stein, 2001 fest Tshirt, mates german felt hat
My HB:
Saaz Pilsner
German Lager - big herrsbrucker hop flavour
Octoberfest lager - best 7% beer ever, Hallertau hops and grain added
Mid strength lager - keep the drivers happy, not me
Summer ale - cascade hops - not german but very nice
Brittish ale - coopers bitter - as above but one of my favourites
Darwin stubby of boonie's LCPA - just for shock value
Ginger beer - 3.5%
Cascade light for real light weights
So that's it should be a fantastic day.

How did such a small country get it so right? Food, beer, everything they did was genious, well...almost everything
But seriously I have been craving a Bratwurst and Dopplebock for days now. I have a dopplebock but it has only been in the bottle for 2 months (after a total of 6 weeks in fermentors at 8C) it may be drinkable?
I think I need to find out!
I may make up a batch of soft pretzels as well, put on a polka and pull out the old squeeze box.
Best of luck with your shindig, sounds like a blast!

It is where I come from, every night the Essan Haus restaurant in Madison, WI has a live polka band, squeeze box and all, they serve up real German food, and have real imported beer on tap!Danis wrote:I went to an oktoberfest celebration last week... all I can say is I wish it was a weekly event.

Take note of all the wooden beer steins on the roof, one of those belong to me and I miss it very much

It is one of the very few things I miss about the states. I recommend to anyone that ever gets to the Chicago area to check it out, it truely is an experience!
i got an oktoberfest planned this weekend too...
Bavarian style pork roast, stuffed pork belly, some dried german sausage (not sure of the styles yet), mustard, saurkraut, cold meats, rye bread..
german beerdrinking and meerymaking music, decorations from bavaria. (paper cups, paper plates, table runners, little flags to stick in the sausages, bavarian flag, garlands, and 5m long string of flags), my 1L weihenstephan weisse glass.. (should get a flogging)... and my 500ml lidded stein,
My oktoberfest lager thats just about right to go, my german lager, my bock, my hefe, my dunkel and if no one wants that... i have a fridge full of imported german beer... Weihenstephan; hefe, dunkel, kristall pilsner, festbier, vitus; erdinger pikantus, hefe, kristall, dunkel, Paulaner hefe, salvator, Schnieder wiesse, bitburger, Maisels....
It seems a shame that i'm doing all this, and only about 6 people are going to be coming.... cost me a fortune

I've been planning this thing for about 2-3 months, and my birthdays jsut passed, so i thought i'd join the two together to give me good excuse to spend a little money...
I bought 2 beers a week from the International Beer Shop, for 3 months so it wouldnt cost too much up front, and now i have a very healthy collection...
The decorations i couldnt find anywhere in Australia, so i got them posted from the US... That wasnt cheap..
The music i got from Amazon.com and the steins, finally arrived 2 months to the day last friday.
I figure if i spend the money, i'll have the gear for a few years to come...

Well the air mail seems to use flying camels, because I thought they would have made the trip in less than 12 daysJames L wrote:2 months to the Day....

haven't exeactly planned it yet but i do have a Oktoberfest/maerzen bier that i brewed in march for the occasion as well as a traditional bock thats almost 3 months old now and might be drinkable with hopefully a hefe-wizen ready for the lady's. Once i get a BBQ in a few weeks invites will be going out, i'll have german sausages and sourkraut (spelled wrong) as my godfather is german and also a butcher (comes in handy sometimes
) my Oktoberfest will be closer to mid-october tho and not as well planned as some of you guys

Had an awesome time filling my 2001 Oktoberfest ceramic 1L stein, eating pretzels and sausage, sauerkaut etc.
Had way too much food but tonight we finally got through the left overs. Was 30+ degrees so no one felt like eating!.
Bought xxxx Gold .........no one drank them. Bought Cascade Light.........4 stubbies gone.
My precious HB got demolished which means the winter brewing, two fermentors going flat strap for the 2.5 months of winter we get in Brisvegas is nearly gone!!!!!!!!
Now that I'm happy that everyone thinks I make good beer they can all get stuffed....it's mine.......not sure i'll be so keen to share next year!!!

Mine oktoberfest was a blowout...I hit the beers pretty hard, and the results weren't too pretty... everyone like the food... very authentic they said. and they all loved the HB..
The only fallen soldier was a bottle of erdinger got left in the freezer overnight...
next year i will simplify the process... prolly just go the BBQ... but make it germanian and go the HB... no imported beers.. so i can focus more on drinking, and cut the cost a little.... The oompa music was awesome too....
