Kegging - First Time

Post by EvanTaylor »

Afternoon,

I just bought myself a keg from the local homebrew shop, a 20lt. My plan was to keg one of my two running batches and buy the rest of the gear in the next couple of weeks.

It just dawned on me though, once I fill it should I really be pressurising it straight away, even though I am not going to hook it all up for a few weeks?

I had just thought maybe it would seal better?

Cheers,

You need to purge the head space of the keg as soon as you fill it this removes the oxygen from the keg, then the keg can be stored however you need to purge the keg first. So you will need a regulator, gas line, gas quick connector and CO2 to do this.

You may get away with storing without purging??? not a good practise though.

Ev,

You need the pressure to get the seal. I wouldn't suggest kegging it unless you can get the CO2 on it, otherwise you have a nice environment for contamination
