tip of a butter knife.. stick it underneath from the bottom pointing up, and wedge it in as far as you can easily. then, twist it so the sharper edge points away from the bottle. seems to snap through the plastic pretty easily from experience.

Wire cutters for me. The second time anyway. The first was a mess without them.

Yeah, the side cutters are the go, the last time I used pet bottles I ripped the rings off the new caps before screwing them on, that is even easier!

I just leave the rings on. I havent had an issue with caps not resealing after about 5 re caps now. I also screw them on pretty tight too.

Although for some reason some people on here have had sealing issues if they leave them on. Maybe is depends on the type of PET bottle used. I use Morgans and Cooper bottles.
8 brews (176 litres) and counting......

i think it's ok to leave the rings on if you're using 2nd hand caps. i have the impression some people have tried to put new caps on bottles with the ring there already, thus there'd be 2 rings lol

I just snip them off with scissors.
"Doc, what can I do about these terrible hangovers?"
'You can stop drinking beer'
"No, seriously Doc, what can I do?"
