Sylvan Summer Blonde Ale

this is what i have fermenting know, ive got big hopes for this one :D



Batch Size: 21.00 L

Total Boil Time: 20 min

1.70 kg Cooper Canandian Blonde Hopped Kit 21 IBU [Boil for 5 min] Extract 45.95 %
1.50 kg Coopers Light Malt Extract [Boil for 20 min] Extract 40.54 %
0.35 kg Caramel/Crystal Malt(Joe White caramalt) - 30L (30.0 SRM) Grain 9.46 %
0.15 kg Carared (20.0 SRM) Grain 4.05 %

15g Fuggles for 20min First wort hopping(thrown in when transfering steeped grain wort and sparged water to kettle)
5g Styrian Goldings for 20 min First Wort Hopping
10g Styrian @ 10 min
10g Styrian @ 5 min
15g Styrian @ Flame Out
5 g Fuggles @ flame out.
20g Styrian dry hop

IBU around 30 give or take

Yeast Safale S-04

oh and i ended up pitching 2 packs of s-04 Safale, due to shaky start (possibly bung yeast, i know that there is lag, but the pack smelt strange)
Est Original Gravity: 1.048 SG
Measured Original Gravity: 1.050 SG (pretty close!)
Est Final Gravity: 1.012 SG Measured Final Gravity: We will see!
Estimated Alcohol by Vol: 4.60 % (before bottle carb)
Est Color: 6.9 SRM This was spot on though

this has cleared and has finished at 1014 @ ferment temps @ 20 21 degrees

the hydrometer sample tasted awsome (IMO), beautiful blonde maltiness(from the crystal), styrian flavour and aroma and a enough bitterness to balance. it was also very clean.

It looks to (to me) ts gonna be a beautiful summer blonde with depth of character! (for a change) :twisted:

Well done! Sounds like a great drop! 40g each of flavour and aroma additions sounds like a winner. I am impressed with the FWH addition as well, how long have you been brewing?

only bout 1 month and 2 weeks. but this was my 5th (im hooked!). it did a big boil probably 9-10 litres with this one, to practice for all extract. I just used my lessons from my other brews and then apllied everything i had learnt/tried so far to this one.

i love brewing its awsome!!! i just try to read heaps and listen around to what people are doing, and then try things myself in my own way.

If you can do a 9 to 10 litre boil, it is not a big step to move up to all extract. You can steep up to say ½ kilogram of specialty grains, strain it into your pot, add some of the extract, and water up to a total of 10 litres. Do a boil with that with your own hopping schedule, and add the rest of the extract at flame out. Chill it down, add to your fermenter, and top up to say 20 litres. Use a good yeast, and you will make a top drop that way.

With a 9 to 10L boil you could even do some partials....... :lol:

im gonna try all extract next (porter) and maybe after that i thought of of doing a partial with a Coopers mexican cerveza and some 2 row pilsner grain.

about the blonde though i bottled in a couple of clear glass to check the colour out and it has a red glow due to the carared.
