I had this recipe on a piece of paper in my brewing notes folder, have no idea where i got it from but sounds like a good one to knock ya friends socks off.
1 Black Rock Lager
2.5kg LDME
200g crushed crystal grain
200 crushed choc grain
50g crushed black grain
20g hersbrucker hop pellets (finnishing)
Muntons gold yeast
It's supposed to be about 8%, (which would make it a dopplebock) just dont tell ya mates that & when they get pissed of three or four beers tell em they're piss weak
to bock or not to bock
to bock or not to bock
Is it beer'o'clock yet
IMHO the only true way to a bock is to do at least a minimash, though with Morgans Master Blend you can do an extract that is quite close.
Try Morgans Roasted Black Malt if you do not want to mash, it is 88% Munich malt and definately fits the style better than the Black Rock kit. Maybe even use 2 of them in place of the kit and drop the LDME to a 2 kilo addition.
Also you are adding a fair bit of crystal and choc malt, maybe drop the choc to 50g and the crystal to 150g. I would drop the black malt all together. You will of course need a good addition of hops since you are not adding a kit, just use beersmith to calculate what you are after.
