The good, the bad and the ugly of commercial beer and breweries, including microbreweries and craft breweries.

Beechworth brewery

Post by Oliver »

Chaps and ladies,

I'm just drinking a selection from Bridge Road Brewers at Beechworth (http://www.bridgeroadbrewers.com.au).

Might I say that they are some of the best beers I've had in a while.

The Dark Ale is lovely and chocolatey with a really nice body. The Pale Ale is very rich, with a lovely caramel flavour. The Australian Ale is also delightful, with a bit of a bubblegum flavour, although I probably prefer the other two.

All, however, are superb. As Ian "Molly" Meldrum would say, "Do yourself a favour."

They're not cheap ($19 or so a sixer), but well worth a try.

I picked mine up in Melbourne from Con at Caulfield Cellars, 702 Glen Huntly Road, South Caulfield. Ph: 9523 6679.

Anyone else tried them?

I was in Beechworth a few months back and managed to get to their microbrewery there. I think the deal was 6 tastings for $7 or 10.00 or something cheap? Can't remember. Either way, the tasting were a pretty decent size as well - came in 120 ml glasses, and I split mine with my boyfriend and still managed to come out quite tipsy.

Their wheat ale was my favourite, but then again, I am rather fond of wheat beers. The boyfriend liked the pale ale, and we both agreed the Australian was worth it too.

I guess to sum it up, we both agreed that they were tasty, but didn't think the price warranted buying a slab. I did buy some to enjoy later though, but it was more the novelty of visiting my beer brewery that made me purchase than anything else.

I loved the porter, I must get it again sometime. I'm pretty sure I've had one or two of the others, I just don't remember which.

ive got a celtic red sitting in the fridge waiting to be drunk, and ive tried the Wheat, but like Rysa said i wasnt too sure about it, but that could be due to the fact that i havent drunk alot of wheat beers.
