Coopers isn't the absolute best beer in the world, but it is the best commercial beer in Australia by far. That's the opinion of most brewers I know.

I knew I was going to get some shit for the Coopers comment on a mainly Australian message board. In all fairness I do think I need to give it another try, it has been a few years since I had Coopers.

That's probably the situation in most countries though... there are good quality beers that are widely available and therefore popular. Not necessarily the best, but not by any means bad and more importantly widely available. The US has Sierra Nevada and Sam Adams, not the best the US has to offer, however no decision needs to be made when either are next to a Budwiser or Coors!

Nothing wrong with either, IMHO - I have been known to voluntarily perform lewd acts for a 6 pack of Sam Adams boston lager!!

When you hire the purple catsuit from the fancy dress shop they'll paint your face for an extra $5...It makes for a very interesting police lineup!

It looks like I am going to have a much easier time than I had previously thought with this homebrew in China . Apparently Coopers has a location here in Beijing and they sell malt extract. I will be checking out their location on Saturday. Very coincidental that I would end up on a predominantly Australian message board AND then finnaly locate extract in Beijing and it be Coopers! Thanks to Austrailia and all its beer swilling citizens!

I never slagged Coopers, I just said it wasnt one of my favorites. Although in comparison to the extremely inexpensive and watery Chinese rice beer it is an expensive godsend!

And if I am able to buy malt from their location here (I should be able to) I will be praising Coopers and hailing the Land Down Under for allowing me to make real beer in China!

Hahahaha. "Yes" and "No!" I learned how to say "malt extract" in Chinese and called the Coopers location. They do have it... however they are conveniently open M-F 9-5; I work M-F 830-530. So while I technically have found it ok, I havnt been able to purchase it yet! Hopefully next week my motorbike will be running properly and I would be able to get over there on my lunch break.

I have considered calling and trying to work out some kind of COD transaction but I want to see what they have as opposed to just asking over the phone (remember I would be talking in Chinese too!). Plus the age old saying "If you want something done right you had better do it yourself" is ridiculously relevant in China! I need to just get into their store myself.
