Selection of Pilsners and a Heffe Weissbier

Selection of Pilsners and a Heffe Weissbier

Post by Kevnlis »

I finally found a bottle shop that has imports and micros. Unfortinately it is in Rockhampton which is 4 hours drive... each way :(

Anyway I had to get a few bottles while I was there. I tried:

Weihenstephaner Hefe Weissbier - I have had this before on tap and I must say it was alot fresher and a wonderful drop. The bottle I picked up was mostly tasteless and not at all impressive! I was very dissapointed!

LCPA - I finally got a chance to drink this wonderful beer. This was the second Freo brew I tried and I was very impressed.

Matilda Bays "Bohemian Pilsner" - Now this was the best beer of the night IMHO. Was absolutely perfectly balanced and had all the character of a true pilsner!

Konig Pilsner - I realise this is megaswill to most, but it is the only one of the well known imports we do not have here in Bundy. Need less to say, it was a great brew but after having the Matilda Bay it did not stack up.

I am living every day hoping I get called back to Rocky so that I can pick up a few more, there were so many I nearly lost my brain trying to decide! Like a kid in a candy store, I wanted them all but I knew the wife would have my nuts if I tried

If there is a Liquorland in or close to Bundaberg, are you sure that they don't stock Konig Pilsner? Because they should.

There is a LiquorLand about 20 min drive from here. Do not get there much but I do not remember seeing it there.

You poor man Kev...

I didnt realise you had to drive so far to get a decent beer.

I kinda feel bad now that i am a brisk 5 minute walk from my nearest dan murphys, and 5 minute drive to the international beer shop (where you can get 4 weihenstephaners for 17 bucks, or a carton for 75).

Next time you go for a drive, try the Weihenstephaner Kristall... Its quite epic and their Pilsner is excellent... I am yet to try the hefe on tap, but aparently there are 3 pubs in perth that now have it....

I was going to try the Kristall but I really liked the Hefe and wanted to have it again. Next time I go up there I will definately try it though. Anyone else have suggestions of good beers to get? They had 3 full shelves and a full cooler so I should be able to find pretty much anything!

I reckon the Dan Murphy's I go to in Mackay (only 1.5 hours) has scaled back their range of beers in recent times. Has the same happened at others or is it just a local phenomenon?

I think it depends on what they sell. I've seen quite a few beers that have gone beyond their best before date in different Dan Murphys. If they are going out of date because they aren't selling, and not due to incompetence of staff, then they are very unlikely to keep stocking it.

Kev,

you have to try the weihenstephan VITUS... it is very epic. Very hard to come by too.... I had one on friday night.. it just blows the mind.

The annual Bockbeerfestival held in Amsterdam awarded the only Gold Medals of the show to the Weihenstephaner Bocks - Korbinian and Vitus, no mean feat indeed!

The Korbinian took out the grand prize as "Best Dark Doppelbock", and was also awarded "Best Non-Dutch Bock".

The Vitus won Gold as best "Blonde Weizen Bock", and was awarded also the "Judges Juryprize".

The Weihstephaner Bocks where judged to reign supreme over the other 60 entrants, both being considered to be "world class beers completely in tune with all relevant guidelines as to style, taste, balance, aroma and all other perceivable features".

that was just something i read about the two bocks that weihenstephaner produce.

cheers...

James

dunno what the frieght is like though... might be cheaper (per bottle) to get a mixed carton sent instead of indiviual beers

Unless you are the network admin for them, no need to be sorry. ;)

I was just poking fun at the fact that the link you posted was dead

The site is back, but it is bad news:

Locality: ABBOTSFORD
Delivery Zone: Queensland Country
Rate / Carton: $26.50 /carton

 $26.50 per carton! Thats a bit rich for my blood :P

Thanks for the tip though James, admittedly it is coming all the way from WA, maybe if I win the lottery they will have my business
