The world's worst beer?

I can remember Courage, and Tooths Old Kent. Tasman Ice was pretty rugged too.

Am hearing really bad things about that "Pure Blond" you mentioned. I havent had a drink of it myself but have people who are normally a big wrap for VB and NEW saying that it tastes like crap. Interesting really. I think that it is an attempt at a low calorie beer and like most Aussie (and world?) attempts, it sounds like it falls way short of the mark.

Pure Blonde
Gotta say, that people that think VB and touheys new are great beers are not part of my judging panel! LOL. Anyway as a defence for Pure Blonde while it is not an LCPA or Pilsener, it is far more preferable to my palate than other beers on tap at my local: tooheys, vb.

Now i wouldnt buy a case of the stuff, but when given the choice of draught beers in an average NSW hotel, Pure Blonde is at least marginally different - and not offensive (unlike VB at anything above 2 or 3 degrees).

Only beer I can remember been incapable of drinking was a carton of Westend cans - lasted nearly a year - what was I thinking??

Ease up on Tooheys - as far as mass market brews go, New really is quite drinkable.

Old has been named a number of times in the thread about top five beers.

In my view it's as bad as VB, but sweeter. Carlton Draught is probably the best mass-market beer in Australia, but that's not saying much!

New is a reasonably drinkable brew, if the options are limited - like at a really old school RSL or work bash, catered party etc.

If one enters a bar to see Coopers, Squires etc on tap, the New lucks out for sure, but I dont have any problem at all with New when the options are limited.

New easily beats a cup of tea or being thirsty.

Is 'Pass Rate' a reasonalbe assesment?

I would be very unlikley to refues a New, but I wouldn't pass up a Coopers, Squires, Boags etc in preference to a New.

I really donot think New should be mentioned on the Worlds worst list.

They're my tastebuds and I'll abuse 'em as I see fit.

I took the mrs to Lonestar the other week for a feed and they had Pure Blonde. With the normal, Crown, Bud, VB, Cold as choices of beer, I figured why not try one as the other beers dont rate.

Well Pure Blonde rates up there with Miller Lite and Bud, absolute shit. I took one mouth full, dumped it at a empty table and ended up drinking good old Jack Daniels.

I've scanned five pages and cannot believe no one has mentioned one of the worst beverages ever to be released (escaped?) in this country.

West End Draught.

This beer makes VB look like Chimay Blue.

Ironic that the same city that produces this filth gives us Coopers.

Tooheys Red is a close second.

The same city that gives(?) us West End Draught also gives(?) us an even worse beer: Southwark.
I recall the big beer strike in Brisbane leading up to XMAS 1976. Beer was brought in from all around the country, including SA (amongst others, Southwark).
Strike ended, Castlemaine-Perkins back to work, XXXX on the street (well, not literally) within a few days (they didn't let them mature for long, did they?).
About a month later, Southwark was on sale at selected outlets around Brisvegas at about $1 per carton of 12 longnecks. There wasn't a big rush on them. In fact, never heard of anyone actually buying any!
But they were roll-tops, would have been worth buying them to tip the beer out and keep the bottles!

Worst beer has to be any beer you chose not to finish.

For me its West End cans.

I had been diving at the sinkholes near Mount Gambier with a mate and we were heading back to camp in Warnambool Victoria.

Being a 40C+ day we decided a couple of travellers would assist with the drive.

Stopped at the local and said some what naively "give us a couple of sixpacks of the local brew".

Needless to say after one mouthful a second can was opened, just to give them the benefit of the doubt, but alas it was as bad as the first.

Drank the esky water for the rest of the trip.

I was visiting Noosa a couple of weeks back and had the misfortune to order a St Arnou Premium Blonde for my brother and me (one each, not one to share )

Anyway, this was, quite possibly, THE worst beer I've ever tasted in my entire life. In fact, I couldn't even finish it. It tasted absolutely disgusting. There was absolutely nothing to recommend it. Awful stuff. I don't know if it was an off batch, bad lines or a family of rats in the keg, but it was just terrible.

A Kiwi, making beer in NSW, then selling it in Queensland: there outa be a law agin it!

Actually, it is probably a bit generous to say "making beer in NSW": I think the stuff is actually brewed by Bluetongue in Newcastle for a Kiwi (damned Kiwis, wont even brew their own beer, get a good Aussie firm to do it for 'em! )

Is this true? Only thought blue tongue made their 2 signature beers. I could be wrong but. I know Potters Brewery at Cessnock have a couple of brews that have St Arnou in their title. Not sure exactly what their called but, haven't been there yet. Its another one on my "Microbrewery to do" list!

Also remember last year, Kingsleys Ale house in Sydney had a number of St Arnou Brews which had the Hunter Valley as their place of Origin. Once again, sorry, can't comment what they are like. That was a day of Steins so the memory isn't the greatest
