K&K honey wheat

Post by Chris »

I thought I'd try something a bit different...

Can of Coopers lager
Can of Coopers Wheat malt
205g carahell
220g leatherwood honey

15g saaz (CZ) for 60min
10g saaz for 20min
10g amaillo (US) 20min
20g amarillo dry hop

WB-06 yeast

Total volume 22L

I meant to ask if anyone else has done anything similar, and how it turned out.

I wonder if the Saaz would be overpowered by the Amarillo? I did a D Saaz bitter/flavour and Amarillo flavour/aroma and the D Saaz wasmostly non-existant in the final product. Despite the fact I used a lot more of it and it is much stronger than Czech Saaz.

Just an observation mate, I say give it a go and see what happens ;)
Prost and happy brewing!

Fair enough point. I only had 25g of saaz left in my freezer, so that's partially how the recipe came about. I was hoping to pick up a bit of spiciness, but also keep it fruity (for a hop perspective).

I would use a bit of the Amarillo to bitter, and use all 25g of Saaz to flavour with the 10g of Amarillo, then dry hop with the Amarillo. That should achieve what you are after with what you have to work with.
