Moving Fermenter During Fermentation
Just pitched the yeast for my second brew (Coopers Bitter). I have the fermenters sitting on the bed in the spare bedroom due to lack of space. Clothes, books, backpacks, purses, and buttocks all get put on this bed on a daily basis. These would all cause slight vibrations and disruptions in the brew as it is fermenting. Am I correct to assume these slight disturbances won't cause any harm to yeast's activity?
You guys with your homebrew shop access have no idea just how fortunate you are!!!!!

LOL, the lengths people go to for beer - i commend you
nah, it won't do any harm. just make sure it won't fall off!
if you move it shortly before bottling/racking, expect to get more sediment carried through.

Re: Moving Fermenter During Fermentation
The slight movements in the early stages of fermentation will probably help it along, by stirring up the yeast, rather than causing it any harm.
Just make sure you keep it stable for 2 or 3 days before bottling or racking, to give your brew a chance to settle down and clarify as much as possible. It will still not be totally clear, but once bottled, 3 or 4 weeks storage will take care of that.

Remember to remove the airlock before moving it to avoid sucking (possibly bacteria-laden) water back into your brew.
w00t!
Re: Moving Fermenter During Fermentation
Hey guys,
Just reading the advice to remove airlock when moving fermenter to avoid sucking in crappy water from airlock, makes sense. What about when decanting some off for HG readings during fermentation? Do you guys think take airlock out then too? Or does this just increase risk of infection more than the sucking in of water?

I just turn the tap very slowly and watch the airlock to make sure no water goes in altho my airlocks are filled with one shot sanitiser so it doesnt matter if it goes into the brew!

Had the odd airlock suckage accident during a move myself. Didnt hurt it. Generally speaking, it's usually a very small amount.
How shall we f--- off, Oh Lord?
