G'day rwh,
Since this post appears to be more about grammar than brewing, I have split it up a bit.
I am not having a go at anyone here, but a lot of people on this site discount the condition of the glasses/drinking vessel, in favour of the beer being bad. I make this point more for the large number of new brewers who rely on this site for information when they first get started than the long time brewer.
In my experience, the glasses are more often than not, the cause of flat beer, providing you are using reasonable ingredients and maintaining reasonable temp controls, you should have no major problem with the beer retaining some sort of head.
The glasses however, make a major contribution to the quality of the head and retention.
I am not suggesting that everyone should attack their glasses with emery paper, but it is a simple and cheap alternative to the dearer commercial glasses with the same or similar treatment.

The grammar nazi thread is found here.

I also find that the different shapes of glasses give different head results. All cleaned and fridged at the same time for the experiment.

Cheers,
Greg
