black and tan recipes
I was researching a blck and tan recipe and was told that if I mix one 1.7kg ale with one 1.7kg can of stout no sugar just the 2 cans, plus 23ltrs of water and pitch the 2 packets of yeast. cCn any one confirm this or is there a better way to make one up.
Re: black and tan recipes
It will be very bitter, but if you age it for a few months it makes a pretty good drop. Nothing like a black and tan though... If you wanted to make a black and tan you would make it to 40 ish litres and add some extra fermentables and hops.
Re: black and tan recipes
The recipe i had called for a can of lager and a can of stout, the rest as normal

Re: black and tan recipes
ive tried the 2 kit method and its ok....not that great. I think you're better off making a stout and pale ale seperately and mix when you pour. it can be very simple, something like this:
Stout:
1 coopers stout can
1.5kg dark liquid malt
stout grain pack from HBS (100gm choc malt, 100gm roast barley) or sub with your own grain bill if you want it a bit more interesting
15gm styrian goldings at 15mins
APA:
1 coopers draught/lager/ale can
1.5kg light liquid malt (sub with wheat malt works nicely too)
15gm Amarillo at 15mins
15gm Amarillo at 15 mins
20gm Amarillo dry hop
mix those 2 together and you'll have a yummy black and tan.....man, im making myself thirsty!
Stout:
1 coopers stout can
1.5kg dark liquid malt

Re: black and tan recipes
I have a stout and a dark ale on tasp at the moment and did the half and half trick. Guessing there's a name for that but it wasnt too bad at all. Takes the edge of the roasty flavours of the stout which can be a little tough to deal with on a hot day.
Re: black and tan recipes
I cmae across a black n tan made by grand ridge brewery and was curious as to how it was made ,we all know how it is, you see something different and you go how does this work?or hows it made? well I do (just curious chap i suppose) As for the mix and pour do that any way.I began making a couple of pints a night after I discovered that not all recipies on the Thomas Cooper web site make a good beer !(irish ale recipie) so whats the best way to make a bad beer better since I had to get through about 50 stubbies (and no one else liked it) mix it with a good stout! which was my 4th brew and as with all things we brew the longer you leave it the better it gets well the stout did the irish ale diddn't.the ting I've now learnt is you see a recipe or you see a product that you think may make a good brew ASK QUESTIONS! research and people will steer you in the right direction.NO more o.k. this looks good for me, I stick a post up in the forum and wait ,and every time I do I get great advice .I was going with idea as you can mke it on the cheap when funds are low or you could go with the best ingridients to make it ,also was interested in the idea that just mixing 2 cans and with no sugar in sight could create an alcoholic brevage.

Re: black and tan recipes
LOL how many black and tans did you have before you made that post?!?!
grand ridge black and tan is a 50/50 mix of their Hatlifter Stout and Gippsland Gold pale ale. it is a great drop, although i find that all the best flavours of the black and tan come from the Hatlifter, so i just get that instead. its full of chocolatey goodness.....
