G'day all i just got home from the local brewers shop, i came home with 500gram of dark malt and 500 grams of light malt, he told me to use inplace of dextrose, but i forgot to ask him this question
now my question is and this is only my 3rd brew,
do i
1) put the dark and light malt in some hot water to mix up to a liquid state then pour into the wort
or
2) throw directlely into wurt and stir in manually.
thanks

light & dark malt boil first or throw in wurt?
gmax, you can do either! I often dissolve in hot water prior to adding to fermenter but you can add as powder just as you would with dextrose!
What brew are you using it in?

gmax, I used to just dump them into the fermenter, boil the kettle and tip boiling water over it mix then add water to required level, I never had any problems with this and never got an infection, but after being on here I now put all my stuff in a pot and boil for a bit first then put in the fermenter

G'day baron, yes i had read someone on the many posts here on the forum something about boiling, the light and dark malt in a litre of water prior to putting in the wurt.,
i wanted to make sure, as i couldn't ring the home brew shop as all the shops around here close at 12pm, this is an ale i'm doing
next brew which is going to be next saturday is my 4th i'm trying a coopers draght brew

I add the malt extract to the boil.
Then again, I make a wort up to 11 litres, boil all the liquid/dry malts toss into the primary fermentor top up with cold water pitch the yeast and drink a beer.

gmax,
just my preference, but for a Draught style, by which I presume you mean more of a lager than an ale, I'd go with the light malt. Maybe 750g LME and 250g DME, try it and see, it's all a a matter personal taste in the end.
Good Luck
