English Bitter

Post by banger »

Afternoon all, just about beer o'clock where I am, hope you're all not too far off either :D

About to put an English bitter down and looking for some suggestions:

1 tin Coopers Bitter
750g LDME
500g DDME
150g crystal malt (steeped 30 mins)
20g Fuggles
20g East Kent Goldings
Safale S-04

Haven't worked out my hop scheduling yet, but my question is should I use additional grains/substitute the crystal for something different? I've got some roasted barley which could be nice - what do you think?

What you have looks fine, up to you as to whether you add fuggles or EKG for flavour/aroma and in which order.

Roast barley but only a touch, say 50g is nice in a Hobgoblin type brew. But since you already have the DDME in there i would leave it as is. I tend to use fuggles for bittering these days and EKG for flavour/aroma but fuggles is a nice hop in its own right and can be used for flavour and aroma too.
