doing this brew tomorrow
what are peoples thoughts.. good hopefully

Morgans royal oak amber ale
1kg dried amber malt extract
500gms dried light malt extract
250gms dried corn syrup
500gms cracked caramalt( brought to boil and steeped for 20mins)
15gms of cluster hops (steeped for 10mins)
safale 04 yeast

if u leave out the 500g ldme it shud be about the fight strength
are cornflakes flaked corn?

i cant leave it out, i buy a mixed bag of all the malt from my local home brew store

500 gms is alot of crystal, by the looks of it it will be very sweet, maybe look at adding some more hops to the boil for some added bitterness ( in saying that i have no idea of the kit ibu's so maybe find this out first) :wink:

col at the homebrew store told me to just use all the crytsal, should i not use it all, maybe half

Personally i would go with maybe 200gms and dont boil just hot tap water will do.

Usually when i used to do kits i used to boil the recipe ( not the can) for 60 mins and steep the grain for the same amount of time then drain into the boil about 10 mins before the boil is done so essentially they were steeped for about 45-50 mins :wink:

Probably too late on this one but the kit is about 38 IBU. Even then I think with 1kg of amber malt its going to be a bit sweet. Even more with the caramalt. I think Lethals suggestion to add some hop bitterness was a good one. I know the brewcraft or whatever it is leaflet suggests cluster but willamette or fuggles is more true to style.

just checked my gravity after two weeks its 1020, it started at 1046, its temperature has been between 16-20 what do ya reckon it should come down to??

I don't think it will get much lower than that, if you've had the same reading two days in a row then go bottle it so you can drink it sooner :)
