mouldy caps

Post by randomiser »

Hi all,
I bottled my stout about 5 days ago and went to check on it today. This was the first time I sterilised the caps but I didn't let them dry before I used them. The caps had mold on them when I checked today. I opened one of them to check if the mould was on the underside and it wasn't. Good news I guess. Any opinions?

Mould only on the outside: wipe it off before opening and relax, don't worry, have a homebrew.

Cheers,
Greg

Ditto Greg`s reply and as an afterthought. you shouldn`t need to sanitise your caps- I`ve bottled thousands {yes, thousands :( } without doing so and it`s never presented a prob.

I think it's seems strange that you got mold on the outside of the caps. I would have thought they dry out before mold had a chance to grow. I also have never sanitised a cap and ever had a problem.

Yeah I sanitised with iodophor. I store my beers in styrofoam boxes from the local fruit store. They have a lid and seal pretty well also it rained for a couple of days after bottling so that may have something to do with it.
