I recently had the worst hangover of my life after drinking a bunch of homebrews.
they tasted a little strange, but nothing too noticeable, and i only had as many as i usually would in an average binge
might this have something to do with fermentation temps?

It probably depends on a couple of factors. Were you dehydrated when you were drinking? Were you drinking on an empty stomach? How much, and for how long? Was, uh, anything else consumed during the session?

fermentation at higher temperatures can make the yeast produce fusel alcohols. did the beer taste at all solvent-y, or did you notice that the alcohol seemed to have a whiskey-like 'burn' to it, even if far more moderate than a whiskey?

to be honest, it was a pretty big binge and i did deserve a hangover, but i'm a pretty regular pisshead and this wasn't a far-out night for me. the hangover i got transcends anything i've ever had before, and i was utterly amazed by it.
the beer didn't have a burn, but i did mess up the recipe and it became cloying with a bit of a desert-wine nose to it.
I'll have to give a few bottles to a mate and see if the same happens to him. I'm to scared to drink it now.
I'll post up the recipe if i can find it.

A desert wine nose, huh? Could it have been something that smelt solvent or fruit like? I'm thinking you got something that wasn't exactly ethanol in there.

Yeah I had the greatest hangover known to mankind once drinking BenEan at a chinese restaurant once. Tis a still white wine, very sweetish, a big hit in the early 1970`s
