Re: ANAWBS 2008
Will try and post a pic of the trophies tonight but cant seem to upload to photobucket at work....
And will add recipes to a new thread in the recipe section.
5 beers entered, 5 medals and 4 places.
1st in English Pale and a Gold Medal - 46/50
Thats my Golden Ale which is more of an english summer ale than an APA but has raised a few eyebrows.
1st in Classic Dry Stout and a Bronze Medal - 37/50
My version of 4 shades of Stout - I used Green Bullet instead of Cascade, Wyeast 1187 instead of nott and upped the OG to 1.050 and IBU to 45. Scored a 2nd place in SABSOSA against all versions of stouts.
2nd in Australian Dark/Old Ale and a Silver Medal - 38/50
A brown porter type beer. Not all that Australian but in fairness, most, if not all ales produced my megaswill companies in this country are derived from our british heritage.
3rd in Kolsch and Alt and a Silver Medal - 38.25/50
My Dusseldorf Altbier which placed 2nd in SABSOSA.
4th in India Pale Ale and a Bronze Medal - 30/50
Tried to get this past the judges by putting my IIPA in this but they picked it was over the top and it got marked down accordingly. It scored 42.5 in the strong ale class in SABSOSA and placed 5th. No strong ale category in ANAWBS.
The Golden Ale just pipped a few others to score Best Beer of Show so another trophy and a $50 dymocks voucher
The most successful brewer is judged by taking the average of your 5 best beers across a minimum of 3 classes (hence the reason i put my brown porter in as an Aussie Dark). So another trophy and a mixed carton of Steam Exchange Beers
Got another 3 x 6 packs of the same beers for the 1st placings as well as 2 drip trays.
I wasnt going to attend the presentation but got a call from one of the organisers the day before suggesting it would be in my interest to attend as i had done well. Slight understatement.
Need to build myself a trophy shelf in the bar!
