Bottling In Champagne Bottles

Post by WSC »

I can get a large amount of champagne bottles.

Does any one here use them for beer and what do you have to do to either cork them of crown seal them? If you need special equipment, which i'm guessing you do where do you get it from?

Cheers,

Never used them but would love to get my hands on some champers bottles.

Generally they are used for big beers or beers requiring extra carbonation

You can buy an attachment (tirage bell) to fit most bench cappers that allow you to fit corks to the bottles and then attach the wire cage.

Send the Still brewing boys an email - they should have all the gear you need.

Thanks Dr. Will check it out.

I want to bottle in champers bottles for a few reasons - as easy as tallies, can get the bottles, they look more presentable than stubbies or tallies and forces people to drink my beers out of a glass.

I personallly think you are selling your brews short if you drink out of a stubbie, there is so much to enjoy about drinking from the glass, seeing the colour, the aroma and the head as it makes those lovely lines down the glass..........

You can cap the champagne bottles (look at la couffe beers, they're capped), i think it does require a modification to your capper, and it does require wider diameter caps. Look into it, i'm sure your local HBS should be able to help you out.

Totally doable. You will need to modify your capper and get some slightly larger seals.

Dave at North Sydney has the stuff advertised.

Thanks Greg,

I'm going to suss out corks first and then goto the crown seals if that is too expensive.

Corks would look the best and add a bit of drama to the opening!

Does anyone know of the limitations of corks, like does the carbonation escape etc, I'm guessing not as lots of champagne manufacturers use them.

Follow the link in my post above, Dave also has corks and cages. You'll probably need a special pusher thingee to get the corks in. I agree that a corked bottle does have the 'wow' factor.

Just checked the site. Doesn't seem too expensive to use corks. Nice one, thanks.
