Frigorific

Post by Tipsy »

The word of the day on the Merriam-Webster Dictionary site is "frigorific"

I assumed the meaning would be something like "f---ing fantastic", apparently I'm wrong

The Word of the Day for January 01, 2009 is:
frigorific • \frig-uh-RIFF-ik\ • adjective
: causing cold : chilling
Example Sentence:
Jamie shivered as she faced the frigorific blast of wind blowing off the lake.

Is anyone else stuck at work with nothing to do?
Bugger it, I'm shutting early and going to the Pub

Yeah, Gov`t`s doing the same here with the trawler licenses, and closing off a lot of the grounds.
Lot of history where you are over there, the "Batavia" is out there on the bottom of the Abrolos Reefs, not far from Geraldton. They reckon you can still hear the ghosts of the ones murdered if you go onto East and West Wallabi Islands.

Beer time :)

Yeah, most of what's left of the Batavia is still on the bottom of the ocean, except for the bit which is on display in the Maritime Museum in Fremantle.

Some interesting links here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batavia_(ship)

The replica visited Sydney during 2000, and was open to the public when it was moored at the National Maritime Museum in Darling Harbour. I also saw it where it was built in Holland during my visit there in 1999.

Thanks for the links, Warra, will have a look soon as I get plenty of reading time. The Batavia running up onto the Abrolos and the mayem that followed is something that always keeps my interest, likewise the 2 mutineers they marooned on the W.A. coast that were never heard of again.

Yes there is quite a bit of history off thIs coast. Most recently of course the finding of H.M.S Sydney .
Theres a fairly new museum in gero now and has dedicated a very moving portrial of our most tragic wartime event
R.I.P
Also good detail of the batavia and many other wrecks off this rugged coastline.Well worth aview if you ever pass through here
