I've just received my adapter from Craftbrewer (Cheers Ross) and hooked it up - considering I'm not the biggest drinker this will work out maybe 1/2 the price or less than bottle rental, depending of course on how much you get out of the $12 1/2kg Sodastream refill.
So, who is using these piddly bottles & how many brews do you get out of them.....
a) force carbing - online estimates are around 3 cornys gassed & poured.
b) natural carbing - not much info on how much gas this saves, which is what I'm keen on finding out in this thread.
you'll dispense approx 5 kegs with a bottle - But I'd be amazed if you can carb & dispense 3. Carbonation takes far more gas than dispensing, though must admit i've never worked it out. Anyone worked out the maths?
Let us know how you go...
If you look at the technical guide to bulk priming, it lists the amount of CO2 dissolved in finished beer for each style in volumes, as well as the amount that will be dissolved in the green beer after fermentation is complete, for a given temp. Subtract the latter from the former, and you have how many volumes of CO2 needed to force carb. I'm assuming that you use about one volume of CO2 to dispense because atmospheric pressure is around 100kPa... or something.
Im about to start keging after 20yrs of bottling as its pissing me off but as old mattie says i dont think i drink that amount to warrent spending 150 on bottle rentel and then 50 bucks to get it filled with Co2 so the soda stream Op for 12 bucks sounds the go seeing if i dont have a drink for 1 week or 1 yr its not costing me any cash.. so im also now intrested in knowing how many 19 litter kegs can you gas and pour with a sodastream Co2 Bottle ?
The way i figger it is if i start spending more then 200 bucks a year on gas then ill switch to the BOC rented ones..
Figgerd i would ask again seeing the last post on this was made over a year ago and thought somone might know by now..

If you refer to my edited post you'll see that this company allows you to buy into a scheme, there is no ongoing rental costs, only gas refills at $45 each. A hell of a lot cheaper than sodastream.
And you got me! I AM a spammer. How did you guess?
A beer in the hand is worth two in George Bush...

Thanks for that ... that is a beter way to go for sure but im like 2hrs drive from the nerest filling point so that sorta puts a damperner on that one.
Nope looks like ill just have to try the soda stream bottles to find out how long they last...
