Screenshots in posts

I've tried before to insert screen copies of BeerSmith into posts, and I've seen others do it. I've always failed.
Just how do you do it?

You don't need any third-party software. Get the screen you want in BeerSmith, then press the Print Screen button on the keyboard. It's usually at the top-right, to the right of the F12 key. That will "copy" a shot of the screen. Then open Paint (comes with Windows, in the Accessories area of the Start menu). In Paint, click Edit->Paste. This will paste the entire screen contents.

Click the dotted-line square at the top of the toolbar column on the left, and drag a box around the bit you want to keep, then go to the Image menu and choose Crop. Then, save the image as a JPG file (or PNG if it's got text, it comes out clearer).

Once you've saved the image, upload it somewhere. Photobucket or http://imageshack.us are good. Once it's uploaded, you can put a link to it in your post on here.

If you use ctrl+print screen it will capture the windows which is on top. That way you dont have to worry about cropping your desktop out.

With the best will in the world, I still can't get my darned computer to co-operate.

I don't seem to have paint. I did download Screen Grab Pro.

I already have PhotoPlus, and Photobucket, but somehow none of these systems seem to want to talk to each other.

Frustration continues, without success, so far.

Anymore clues? Anyone?

As far as I know, it's Windows XP.
But then I'm a bit of a computer gumby.
If I can't just click it and see it happen, it frustrates the living daylights out of me.

No worries warra, you most likely do have paint.

In the start menu go to "Programs" then "Accessories" and you should find it there.

If you don't have or don't like paint, try this:

Which version of Windows? I can't get that to happen on Vista. Still, it's definitely handy to know how to crop in Paint, because sometimes you'll only want part of a window after all.

Tipsy - try doing the same screenshot, and saving it as a PNG instead of a JPG file (provided your version of Paint allows it) - text comes up a fair bit clearer.
