Pale Ale

Post by Wassa »

Putting this one down this afternoon:

1 can Coopers Pale Ale
500gm Dextrose
500gm LDME
15gm Cascade at 15 min
15gm Amarillo at 5min
Dry hop 20gm Amarillo

Make up to 22 litres and pitch US05.

Looking for something that is a cross between Coopers Pale Ale and James Squire Golden. Not doing the grain thing this time. Did think about going 350gm Dext, 350gm LDME and 300gm Honey, but decided against it. Thought that going all malt would be too malty for the style.

Any opinions????

Coopers Pale Ale is now reported to be all malt.

Not sure about JSGA, the flavours seem to have been watered down over time so i suspect it contains some sugar.

I found my all malt kit beers were the best, particularly with some steeped grain but that's my personal preference. If you want something drier then a small (250g) dex addition is the go.

I've done something similar to your pale ale recipe; the only difference being that I used a full kilo of LDME and no dextrose.

I'd say the Doc's advice is good: all malt and some steeped grain seems to work best with this kit, although given your hop additions I can't see the malt being too swamped by the hops.

Really? Any updated whiteboard pics??

Although I didn't think the recipe needed changing :P ...and I still think the Leabrook-made stuff tasted better!!

Its been a lengthy and ongoing discussion over on AHB.

From memory emails were sent to the brewery confirming a few things.

CPA is now all malt, CSA contains ~5% sugar.

Yeast in bottles is same as that used in primary.

Well put the brew down Sunday.

Went with:

Can Coopers Pale Ale
1kg LDME
15gm Amarillo at 15 min
15gm Amarillo @ 5 Min
15gm Amarillo @ flameout
15gm Amarillo dry hopped

Made up to 22 litres and pitched US05. Hoping it will be a nice tasty brew.

Gotta admit Doc and Pale, I just love Amarillo and Chinook as well.

Hoping it will be a nice flavoursome brew.

I have a pale ale on tap at the moment that used home grown chinook flowers.

Amazing flavour/aroma, nothing like US chinook, actually more like NZ B-Saaz as it reminds me of a LC bright ale more than the pale ale.

It wont last long
