Bottle Tops

Hi,

I'm new to the world of homebrew and before I launch into my first brew I wanted to know about bottle caps.

Do the crimp caps work on twist-top bottles as well as normal bottles?

They do, but you need to use a proper bottlecapper to have them seal properly.

Yep, get the ol' superautomatica bench capper. You often see them in Kmart etc, but you also see them come up on ebay a fair bit.

I'm in a pipe band ( http://www.nunapb.com ) and after each band practice the bin has around 50 or so bottles in it so that makes things a lot easier on the pocket than it may have been otherwise!

Something going on there Zuma, Iv'e been doing Tooheys Draught bottles for years in my capper, works great.

Maybe you are not adjusting your capper down far enough. You might be adjusting the capper where you can still slide the bottle straight under it. If you do that, you might not get enough downwards pressure on the cap.

My best results are obtained by adjusting the capper as set out below, which usually means I have to tilt and slightly force my bottles with the caps under the capper.

Try this:
Put cap on bottle.
Slide bottle under capper.
Then adjust capper down as far as possible onto top of bottle.
Now crimp the cap.

Works everytime for me, and I've done thousands of them.

i used to have the same problem with my cooper's capper...i recently restarted this hobby and had to buy a new capper from the HBS, which has no such problems....

this new capper i'd say is a little larger, which probably lends some leverage, but i think there must be more to it than that....i used to have to put my full weight on the cooper's one
