Saw a few comments elsewhere about Australia's performance in the confederation cup and thought it would be a good topic.
So are we champs for pushing both Germany and Argentina or chumps for losing?
For me I reckon it was OK, especially considering Bresciano, Kewell and (mostly) Viduka unavailable, as long as we can continue to improve. defence remains a worry of course.
Hopefully we'll roll Tunisia tomorrow morning, to at least win something on the trip.

I saw the Argentina game and if it wasn't for the corner with 2 mins left in regulation that game would have been a lot closer
I thought it was good

We are just not good enough.
I am tired of the excuses ( Well we are playing Argentina/Brazil/Germany etc) they were pushing that line in the eighties.
We have players all over the world stage now.
We need a change of attitude - we need to stop giving these sides too much respect.
Maybe we should appoint the coach of the Bangladesh cricket team?
My thoughts,

Our defence has been letting the side down for years now, admittedly they were playing two of the strongest sides in world soccer/football, but to let in 4 goals in successive matches isn't good enough. They can't hope to qualify for the World Cup unless Farina rectifies this situation asap.
Getting Kewell & Bresciano back will help in the midfield, but unless we start scoring 4 goals a game, we're going to be in strife.
I agree that there's been enough excuses - having said that I think there was some bad fortune in the draw - had we played Tunisia first rather than last in a dead rubber I think things may have been different - we would have come in with a bit of confidence (like they did against Germany in the first game) and the result would most likely have been different.
They did well to push Germany and played OK against Argentina - I think they couldn't give a stuff by the time they played Tunisia.
The result of this Confed Cup was a bit disappointing considering we came 3rd in 2001, knocking France, Brazil and Mexico off in the process, and made the final back in 1997 (back in the 'glory' years of El Tel).
I wouldn't mind it so much if Farina was given the boot in favour of someone with a bit more experience in the international arena and in managing in general - there's plenty of ex-national team coaches floating about and I don't see why they couldn't forget about what happened with Venables and take another chance with one.
By the way - the hosts Germany are my pick to win it all, and also the World Cup next year.
Seems we aren't the only ones dissatisfied with the Socceroos' Confed Cup efforts, Farina and Soccer Aust have agreed to go their seperate ways....let's hope they can find a coach with good international credentials - and fast.
Just heard the news. This is crazy if you ask me. Despite any thoughts you may have on Farina, changing only a few months out from the important part of a 4 year campaign can't be good.

I don't know, a lot of teams that have great preparation and are favourites usually flop badly at the world cup.
The teams that do well seem to hit their straps during the tournament. Aussies perform best when their backs are to the wall so if the public expects them to flop, the players will probably dig deeper.
I think get Venables back, he knows the players, the players respect him and and at this stage all the best coaches in the world are probably taken.

Otto Rehhagl is still coaching Greece

Sir Bobby Robson, or failing him David? O'Leary (now at Villa).
The board was just looking for an excuse to give Frank the bullet I reckon and that piss poor performance against Tunisia was all the ammunition they needed.
I'm thinking we should get George Best as new manager. George Best and Dogger. George could take the boys to Dogger's place for a homebrew-up the night before a big match.
