Priming kegs

Post by wild bill »

I have just acquired a 9 litre keg and am looking into any possible ways to avoid the CO2 bottle, regulator etc....so my question is

Is it possible to prime the keg with dextrose (say at 8gm per litre) and use a smaller portable gas setup (picture attached hopefully) to dispense beer?

Yes,

You can bulk prime it in the keg and wait two weeks. The first glass will pull all the sediment.

Tommo,

I found the device on eBay - it uses the smallish bulbs also used for soda water, whipping cream etc. Sells for around $50 from memory. Do a search on beer on eBay and you should find it there. Would probably be ideal for a camping trip....

Be careful buying this system from ebay as they are sold there without bulbs. You can mail order them from HBS in Oz with bulbs for the same price or cheaper than ebay.

From Grain and Grape http://www.grainandgrape.com.au/brewingsystems_info.htm
CO2 Injector Assembly $39.95
Pack of 12 CO2 Cartriges $14.95

Dispense from your Post Mix kegs with this lightweight device. Uses 2-5 12g cartridges to push out your beer. Includes one cartridge. Not designed to carbonate beer but great for a party or when you don't want to take your gas bottle.
You can also purchase nitrogen bulbs for this system from the US so if you have a stout you want to give that creamy head to you can use this system with a nitrogen bulb to pour (you need the correct tap/gun to do this)
