I have seen them, actually they normally come with a big bottle and a hand pump to transfer the liquids. Strictly speaking I have only ever used them for wine and they work well enough with some draw backs. There are two plates which are separated by a plastic ring. The liquid to be filtered is introduced through the ring and then is pushed out through the filter plates above and below. It is then collected into a pail through two plastic hoses, one from the top, one from the bottom.
Couple of issues I have had here with this product.
1. DIfficult to get filter plates, there is a suprise here, most homebrew stuff is hard to get here.
2. Everything is held together through some wing nuts, bolts, and washers which have a nasty habit of going adrift, and I have seen the plastic surrounding the locking holes break, leaving them useless
3. Leaks pretty good when the plates get filled with yeast and doesn't have a collection system so it will piss your brew all over the floor.
I would personally look at an electric filter, they are a bit more expensive but I have used mine for 10 years with no big issues
