Welcome to the DWW website - the home of the 110% TOTALLY COMMITTED and PASSIONATE AUSTRALIANS dedicated to the promotion of THE ONE TRUE WHEAT BEER - REDBACK
There should be laws against this sort of crap. Redback, the one true wheat beer?

Think this has been around for a while...in newspapers you can turn the page once you spot the little "advertising feature" headings, no such luck on the web.
Salut!

I served up 3 kegs of redback with tequila shots through each serving and it rocked the night like no other.

I'm a big fan of redback, keep it up Matt!

I would describe Redback as an acceptable but not spectacular beer. But calling it the "One True Wheat Beer" should be a breach of advertising ethics.

MHD...
thats pretty much correct !!
There are excellent examples of Weissbeir available (in bottles) in Australia, I have a bit of a soft spot for Erdinger, though Weihenstephan make an excellent brew and of course the old standby Schofferhoffer..
Quite different are the Belgian Wit beers of which Hoegarten is about the only one around.. we are of course talking white beers here.
Redback is a fine beer of course but may I suggest the following tasting session (with a few of your mates)

Redback
Hoegaarten
Erdinger (or other) Krystalweizen..this is optional I do not like Krystalweizen)
Erdinger (or other) weissbrau ..mit heffe of course.oh please do not do the trendy shake the bottle thing..
Redback ..again ...as a control beer
Weihenstephan Dunkleweizen
Erdinger "Pikantus" Dunkleweizenbock.

mmmm...Pikantus....mmmm

You will find that your observation about Australian and German wheat beers is entirely correct

being a local I assume you make the occsasional sojourn north to Debarcle? :)
Hoegaarten, not suprisingly is one of my favourite, readily available wbs I have had since...

I really wish I would have remembered (or recorderd) the names of brews I had there... but many of them were particular to towns I visited... Sone of the ones I had in the north (around Greifswald, near the very northern tip) were spicy, not hot, just very spicy, the aroma was quite something else....

the word Dunkleweizen rings a bell.... what exactly soes it mean

Dunkleweizen simply means dark wheat
There are many "darkened" versions of wheat malt produced, chocolate wheat, caramel wheat, dark wheat and so on and all are avilable here in the antipodes...I find that a bit of choc wheat does well in a porter actually....

I'd add Schofferhofer Hefeweizen to that list. Just personal preference of course.

if you are in Perth an want to try these brews with a good meal I'd suggest the "Alpine Restaurant" in Carlisle! The food is excellent and at $7.50 a beer, 500ml, the prices are very reasonable.

Had lunch there yesterday with my parents, introduce the old man to the joys of Weihenstephan and Erdinger beers. Needless to say I wasn't driving home!!

Pretty good!! The old man paid so I didn't see final bill. Set menu for $32, was entree, main and desert. I think mains were around the $20-25 mark, but servings are quite big!!!

I'll be going back!!!
