Gluten free beer

Post by Aussie Claret »

Hi,
Has anyone ever tried to make a gluten free beer? strange question I know, was just wondering if this is possible. (Gluten free - cannot have any malted barley or wheat), which doesn't leave many more fermentables except honey and possible rice syrup. The thought of a Bud springs to mind ohhhh nooooo. :(

thanks in advance
AC

My brother-in-law has Coeliac disease & I've bought him some of their Aztec Gold. You wouldn't know it was GF if not told, quite a nice beer.

Great thread AC.

My mother has just been diagonised with Coeliacs disease, so your question could be of some use.

Velophile,
Thanks very much, my mother also has been diagnosed and because its hereditory theres about a 10% chance that immediate family members could also have it. God Hope not!
Not panicking just yet.

How many in the family are rather skinny & never seem to put on any weight? They will be your prime suspects for having Coeliacs.

My brother-in-law's brother was always really thin, escape through prison bars type thin. Some time after going on a GF diet I didn't recognise him. "Who's that bloke?" at the family gathering type thing.

Proccessed food, eating out & take away etc are the biggest problems. You can eat any meat, veg, friut & nuts you like. Also rice, corn/maise, buckwheat, sorghum & amanrath.

Only six pack I ever had!

Thanks again
