Racking..help

Post by Slammer »

I have just put down my first attempt at a partial mash - Hooegarden. When straining the finished wort into my fermenter through a colander I noticed some of the leftover grains etc. from grain bag had slipped through into the fermenter. Can I filter these out prior or during racking etc.?? Or will they migrate to the bottom in which I will not pick them up when I rack?? Also when is the best time to rack a beer like a Hooegarden? During or after fermentation has finished?? It started off at a 1040 OG...Help

Cheers and Merry xmas to all home brewers...Ho.. Ho.. Hooegarden..mmm..a great beer!
