James Squire Golden Ale

The good, the bad and the ugly of commercial beer and breweries, including microbreweries and craft breweries.

James Squire Golden Ale

Post by peterd »

Found this, on tap, at the Kingston Hotel in Canberra on a recent trip. Never seen it before.
Rare for me to venture south of the Tweed River, but pleased I did on this occasion.
I am a fan of most of the JS range, but the Golden Ale is (again, for me at least) best by far.

I agree, I am also a fan of the JS range, tried the golden ale when it was released as a limited edition, and it's still the best beer I've ever had. I have read in several places that is now available again, but I can't find it anywhere locally, even at Dan Murphey's, who have others from JS.

I know 2 bars with JS Amber on tap in Melb.

CBD, Collins place downstairs in the plaza - Zanzibar, &
Carringbush Hotel, Langridge st Abbotsford.

The Portland Hotel Russell st should have all the JS brew on tap too.

I've only found Golden Ale on tap at Penrith Panthers. In bottles I've only seen the packs that also have a 6 pack of Amber Ale.

I have tried it out of the tap at port macquarie Panthers and out of the bottle.

It is a bloody fantastic drop. Not as good as my beloved toohjeys old but right up there. Mind you out of the bottle it is better than Tooheys old because i don't like oild out of the bottle unless i've brewed it myself.

The Golden Ale is on tap in Melbourne at Blue Train cafe in Soutbank. They also have some other good beers on tap, including Mountain Goat (of which I had a pint there on Saturday. Mmmm).

Cheers,

I think a lot of you are missing the JS hotspot...
James Squire brew house.
Russell street melb. (cnr little collins and russell)

Velophile mentioned it but i thought it deserved a bit more of a plug.
Whilst you are there ask for a pot of "speculator" which is captioned as "an experiement in hops" top notch drop, should drive a few of you crazy trying to copy it :P
