Footy Season Nut Brown Ale.

Post by Paleman »

Heres one i made not too long ago, its been in the bottle for a couple of months and is a cracker. I made it with the idea of banking it for winter.

I commited the cardinal sin of not logging my methods, so its off the top of my head, but not hard.

1 Grumpys English Draught Ale Masterbrew.
1 Can of Coopers Draught Extract.
300 - 400 Gms of cracked Chrystal Malt. ( according to individual taste )
Two sachets of Coopers dried yeast...rehydrated for wort. To improve this brew even more, next time im going to propogate some Coopers PA yeast from the bottle.

Basically i followed the Masterbrew instructions on the package, and lightly boiled my Masterbrew, steeped the Chrystal Malt in a seperate pan, and sieved the lot into my fermenter. Added the can of extract, topped up to 21 litres, and then the rehydrated yeast went in. Fermented at around 20 degrees, racked for 8-10 days and bottled.

I must say its a beautiful drop, one of my best. The Chrystal malt adds a nice grainy taste without sweetening or overpowering the hops. Nice cooper colour, with a creamy tight head.

Im trying to save some for winter, for the footy...but its not going to happen. Time to make another one soon.
