I was thinking about how many bottles you would need if you set up from scratch, to last a year. So, how much beer do you have in storage at any given time?
I think I have about 160 longnecks, but I am finding I need loads more now that I am (trying) to keep the beer a bit longer.

Switch to kegs, drink more beer
I just bought two new kegs which takes me to four. Carboys are all full, kegs are full, can't brew this weekend
I don't drink enough

I am forever hunting longies!
Kegs can be nice, but after doing that I prefer the bottles.
I'm running about 150 at the moment but none of the beers seem to be ageing for very long
I have a coulple more in the pipeline so next month maybe 300?
Missus is not happy though, thankfully she never enters the beer shed!

I think that as a minimum you'd need three batches worth - one drinking, one maturing and or ready to go, one empty to be filled this weekend. That however leaves no margin for bad batches or ones that you want to put away for a while.
All up I have about 200 tallies and 12 doz 640's plus miscellaneous other bottles.
Cheers,
Greg

5 kegs, 4 cold ready to go, capable of drinking from 3 at once with out changing gun. 1 ready to be chilled or refilled.ACTbrewer wrote:Dogger, do you bottle at all?
I like to have a large selection of beers to choose from, and I can't see how that's possible without bottling unless you have heaps of kegs.
How long can you keep it in the keg before you notice deterioration?
You can still have a variety to choose from with kegs you just need a bigger fridge and more taps.
If using 19L kegs you will also end up with a couple of bottles from each batch that you can age and drink later.
The other advantage is you do not have to wait months to see if something new is good or bad.
Find of the week for me!!!!
Stumbled onto a council glass recycling site this arvo. Stuck my nose around for a bit and pulled out a couple of long necks. But just before leaving I spy a box beside the big bin, open that puppy up and see roll tops, lots of 'em!!!
That box leaps into the ute seemingly under it's own power. Get it home and count out 3 dozen old long necks! Little dusty but after I spent the afternoon washing (and smiling) my empty total is now brought up to 120!!!
I have a busy week of brewing ahead! Happy days! Free bottles!

Ok Guys,
If you are in the Gold Coast or Brisbane region I have about 100, 750ml glass screw top XXXX longnecks all boxed cleaned and ready for filling and about 50 plastic Morgans long neck up for grabs.
If you want them make me an offer and email me. I bought them before I got into kegging and am happy to sell them to recoupe a bit of my outlay.

There's nothing wrong with having nothing to say - unless you insist on saying it. (Anonymous)
yeah.. i definately into the kegging scene.. i have 3 kegs byt only ever use 2.. one i use, the other being gassed and both in the fridge. When i empty one, the other is ready, i then refill the emptied one and put it on charge for the duration of the live keg. Which is usually about 2 weeks. This system is working quite well for me.
Only down fall as previously mentioned is the lack of variety until you finish the keg. but shite happens.
As for storage.. i have about 180L in 25L containers at any one time.. can have a max of 240L in my storage room. But i now sharing that room with my stilling equipment and stocks.. gotta have room for me whiskey, rum and vodka (2L flagons).
The system works well as most brews are only 20L anyway.
