Milo Brews

Post by corks »

I've had the idea for a while now, of using in a brew, as a substitute or as well as malt extract. Not an original idea i know, but i was wondering if anyone had tried it?

there is an old thread that mentions it in passing, but no one says how it turned out...

At the end of the day, it's your brew. If that's what your tastebuds are telling you would be a good thing.... then go for it.

Just make sure you come back and tell us how it turns out!

Corks you've read my mind.

I am keen to try with a real ale or black. Which one are you going to go?

Has anyone noticed if the Choc flavour comes through.....ie subtle?

Cheers

I primed a few stout bottles with milo last year.

They were what evil must taste like.

My latest stout (can of Cooper's Stout and can of dark ale) had 150gm of steeped pale choc malt in it. The thing tastes ...not chocolatey, but remarkably like Kahlua..or it has a Kahlua smell and subtle taste, anyway.

There isnt a huge amount of chocolate in milo, its mainly malt extract so when it ferments i wouldnt think it would impart much of a chocolate taste. Would be better to use cocoa and balance the extra bitterness with some lactose or a lot of malt.

Milo also contains milk powder. I think quite a lot too.

I would try coco rather than Milo.
