Priming odd size long necks

Post by AlcoMoo »

:?: I just got some new bottles, but they are 650ml not 750ml. Do you reckon I could still use the larger end of my scoop to prime?? I am using Dex in a stout. Does the extra 100ml make a huge difference to the "fizziness" (which I don't want a heap of, but enough to give a nice head) if I just use the 1 tspn?

I put my Stout into some 640ml crown seals I bought especially for it, and used my 375ml priming scoop, one scoop per bottle. Not only are stouts normally low in carbonation, but if you leave them long enough in the bottle to get some good age then more of the malt will ferment out and gas up the bottle.

It'll make some difference. I agree with NT in that you are better to slightly under-prime a stout.

One option to consider is bulk-priming.

Yeah, but I only have 1 fermenter atm. I'll under prime.

Let us know how it turns out mate! I can only agree with Lethal & Chris when they say to use your smaller priming measure with stouts (until you can bulk prime). Low carbonation in this style beer is a good thing! Good luck with it. Cheers,
