Clear Beer

Post by DJ »

With all this talk about racking and clear beer:

Am I the only one who doesn't really care if the beer is a little bit cloudy toward the end of the bottle??

As I havn't actually brewed anything yet, I made an assumption that the clearer the beer the better it would taste, so I was trying to find out the best way to do it. Is this a bad assumption?

With all things being equal and you made 2 lots of beer and one was cloudy and the other clear, would they taste different?

Haha, good point. My second glass out of a longneck always has a small bit of yeast that comes through. In size about equal to a big pinch of salt. Never bothered me.

BUT I do take care to end up with as clear a beer as possible. It does look better.

I drink Coopers pale or sparkling yeast, but never HB yeast.

Actually, I sometimes drink HB yeast if I have been out drinking commercial beer, get home and want to avoid a hangover.

The best way to avoid yeast, is to pour into a jug first. Best money I ever spent.

I don't rack my beers yet, even I just started brewing few months ago, I just leave them for weeks/months, and they are clear most of the time, I just pour all my tallies all in one go into jugs.

I don't know if I can be bothered to rack... maybe I will wait and see how my Thomas Coopers Draught using Saflager yeast goes, and maybe I will rack my next lager/pilsner.
