homebrew for sale??

Post by blacksmith »

Hello all
this is my first post and I want to say how much I have enjoyed reading the various posts and really appreciate the help and info I have found here.
I wondered if anybody had seen the homebrewer hopeful on ebay?

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/6-pack-of-the-fi ... dZViewItem

did the laws change regarding selling homebrew? Also I'm a bit worried about the clear bottles.

Cheers Blacksmith

Nope, its still illegal not to mention bloody ambitious. Who would want the first batch of a newbs homebrew - mine included! And clear bottles - a huge no no!

I wouldn't bid on this - he's breaking eBay policy by attempting to sell alcohol without a license.

And just look at the label on the back....

Kit + kilo of white sugar....shudder.....

It got 2/10 cos it was cold and wet (and not infected).

Emo - are you sure. My understanding was the alcohol for sale is there cos the containers they are in are worth loads more than the beverage itself - ie. Duff cans, premiership editions etc.

I very much doubt that.

But you could prove me wrong.

A liquor licence is pretty specific - pub at XXX location, or takeaway bottle shop at XXX location.

I have been a liquor licensee for a Rugby club.

So ebay is saying you can sell alcohol via ebay only IF the law in that state allows the liquor licensee to do so.

My point is that the state laws do not allow you to retail alcohol, except in very limited circumstances, such as wines and only where age can be verified and then only by a few carriers.

Ignoring collectables, hardly open trading.

You're right. The ebay rules are there just to cover their own backsides. If no-one reports it they won't do anything.

That said, I don't think he's going to get many takers based on his description. By the time you pay postage you might as well go and get a 6-pack of decent beer.

If it came at a price, then you may aswell pop down to the bottle and buy a bottle of Absinthe.

Absinthe is illegal in AUS.
The stuff 4 sale in b/s contains none of the active ingredient (thujone) derived from the wormwood plant.
