Seems sweet?

Post by coloneldom »

G'day gents,
another coupla beginners questions; firstly, my brew has been fermenting for about 4 days now and seems to have stopped (Beermakers bitter, 1kg dex, kit yeast), it has been fermenting between 22-26 degrees, is this normal?

Secondly, I've had a taste of the brew from the fermenter, it seems to have quite a sweet taste and smell. Does this go away once in the bottles and over time etc?

Cheers
Woke up this mornin' and got myself a beer!

4 days is about normal for that sort of brew at about 26. As long as the hydro reading is consistent, then everything is fine.

I haven't used Beermaker Bitter before, however I have used Beermakers Old and found that to be overly sweet with little or no real hop flavour.

I made the Beermakers Bitter with 50/50 and there was no hop flavour, aroma and very little bitterness.

Young beers often taste sweeter than more mature beers.
