Herbal Tea - secondary hopping?

Post by drsmurto »

Noticed quite a few people making 'fruit' beers and wondered if anyone had thought of putting herbal teas into a secondary to impart a flavour on the beer that way. ie. cranberry, raspberry herbal infusions. Could make a herbal tea in a coffee plunger. add it to secondary as/before you rack.

Anyone tried this or has my boredom at work made my mind go awol?

Cheers

still new at the hb game
but ive considered using whats around the house
tight on the wallet...
we drink loads of green tea here and i have been
thinking of steeping some and then dry hopping some more

maybe it will come out too bland,
but i do have some green tea infused with strawbarry from T2
called Gorgeous Geisha, seems to bbe a rreal treat straight up
so why not, anyone else done this before?

DrSmurto,
I'm about to add some tea to a Morgans Yukon Brown using the dry-hop technique. Am aiming for a warming winter-style ale, so it'll be put down for at least 5 months, which should let it smooth out nicely!
My LHBS advised me of the dry-hop technique and reading around the 'net it looks the goods-pretty simple too! :)

What is it with people wanting to make beer taste like tea, coffee? I like my beer to taste like beer! The delicious tasting liquid made with malt, hops, yeast and water. You can put whatever you want in your beer but IMO you'll prob end up wasting 23 litres of beer. Your choice though.

I suspect Dogger is not far away from giving you some thoughts on that one.... :D

Its the beauty of homebrewing, we can literally make anything we want which includes the addition of coffee, tea, chocolate, chilli, honey, fruit etc. The list is endless!

I love messing about with beers and flavours.

Cheers

maybe try rosehip in a wheat beer.

it has a tartness, like cranberries which have been used in wheats before.

Chai anyone?

Post by gazpachos0up »

What do you guys reckon of putting a couple of chai t bags in some GB. Its full of cloves and ginger and cinnamon. I reckon it'd add a bit of flava. Not sure about the tea flava though. But ginger iced tea beer might be ok...
Might try this one

Unless someone thinks otherwise

i have a bunch of different tea and tea like ingredients floating around the house as well, like rosehip, jasmine, green, hell even dandelion root. once im confident i can manage a regular kit beer without rooting that up i might try some stranger recipes.
