Best of British poll....comedy

Post by Boonie »

This was started and requested on another thread.

What is your favourite Pommie comedy show?

Apologies if I have missed any, I had to delete around 20 as it would not fit.

Good luck choosing.

Cheers

I voted for The Young Ones, but after researching, Mind your Language came a very close second..."A thousand apologies"

Classic

Tough choice, but Fawlty wins it for me, even if there was bugger all episodes (even for Brit comedy).

Red Dwarf, Keeping Up Appearances, Father Ted, Vicar of Dibley,Black Adder and many of the others are all favourites.

I probably would have voted for The Office if it was on the list. Out of the listed shows I went for The Young Ones.
"Doc, what can I do about these terrible hangovers?"
'You can stop drinking beer'
"No, seriously Doc, what can I do?"

IMHO Only fools & horses was the best british comedy ever, by far...
Again, doesn't even make your list, & there's some pretty poor ones on there...

cheers Ross

If it let me fit the 100 or so I had picked, it would have been on there.

It was a good show now that I think about it (ie search net and see pictures of characters   )

I just put the ones on that I could picture or remember what they were about.

You could do an Australian one for us , Ross, and then you will not be disappointed that your favourite is not on there.

Cheers

I just wish everyone could vote a top 10 and then the stats would get really interesting. Monty would be in top 5.

Oliver, if you see this, is there a way we can do Top 10 polls?

Cheers

Tough choice, but I voted for The Young Ones ahead of Monty Python, Blackadder, Bottom and Father Ted. Two of my favourites that aren't on the list are Not The Nine O'Clock News and Filthy, Rich & Catflap.

You forgot the "I'd prefer to gouge out my eye balls & replace them with my own testicals than watch British Comedy" option.

I voted for The Office, just brilliant
but there are so many others that I could have voted for
Little Britain (cant wait for the live show, got my tickets  ), Black Books, Young Ones, Vicar of Dibley, Red Dwarf, the list just goes on

has anyone seen a mockumentary called People Like Us, do yourself a favour and try and get a copy, I think it is hard to get but bloody funny

I simply cannot choose... so many great shows.

A Bit Of Fry And Laurie didn't make it either... ah well, it's impossible to remember the lot, too many.

Anybody remember Mr N-I-P-P-L-Hyphen-E at the police station on Fry & Laurie?

Half-way through their world tour, they were ambushed in Namibia by locals who took them hostage. Apparently the ransom was a dozen fondu sets. This was a fair while ago, when Henry Kissinger was still a diplomatic force to be reckoned with. He talked the kidnappers down to four fondu sets and a spare set of forks. My recollection of what happened next is hazy but I think the charity set up to consolidate the donations to buy the fondu sets got caught up in some Cayman Island taxation thing.
