First Lager

Post by luckyphill »

G'day all

Doing my first Lager, a Coopers Bavarian with Saf S-23...keeping it simple so just doing a K & K to see how it goes. It is in the fridge sitting on a temp set at 12 C. Just wondering how long it should take to get going, has been in for 24 hrs with normal condensation and a bit of sediment but no airlock activity not that it worries me to much. Pitched yeast at approx 16-18 C.

cheers

Patience Phil... lager yeast is a bottom cropper, so doesn't show the same activity as an ale yeast; that coupled with the lower ferment temp it can take a while... Very, very rare for a dried yeast to be dead, so just hang in there...
