Just how long will it last?

Post by gregb »

In the thread on "keg2bottle" Oliver said:
...indefinitely like a bottle-conditioned ....
I agree with him, but it piqued my curiosity. Just how long will a bottle conditioned beer in a glass bottle stored in reasonable conditions last?

Does any one know? ie have they had a beer that was good and then was bad and just how old was it.

In another post Oliver mentioned an 8 year old stout he was enjoying.

I myself have been fortunate enough to sample a stubby that was about 10 years old. (It belonged to a friends son, and had been under the house since before the son left home) it was an IPA style and rather good.

Thanks,

Greg B. (Currently enjoying a 1 year old brew.)

As promised, I'm working my way through all my beers and writing tasting notes.

One thing I've noticed, among other things, is that the beers have tended to lose their aroma over time. Some beers that early tasting notes said were hoppy have lost that hoppiness, but the bitterness is still there.

None of the beers have been undrinkable though. Those that were good when younger are still good. Those that were crap still are.

Time has been more kind to darker and stronger beers.

One thing to note is that my beers are stored in anything but ideal conditions in a shed (I know, I know).

The tasting notes will be posted when I've tasted all the current beers.

So, in summary, I can't offer any answers at all to the questions Greg B poses :?

Cheers,

Oliver
